Fickle matter
Going about your day and scrolling down the media,
It might seem that everything that matters
Is irredeemably unreliable.
Many say their neighbourhood is sh1te.
Others lament that their job is cr3p.
Public services are going down the drain
While customer support always takes the p1ss.
Whether on Ti3To7 or on the street,
We hear everyone talk loads of rubbish.
Many others claim that life's a beach.
While in the Romance languages,
Extra elemental colloquialisms
Do take on a sad misogynist twist.
But in Palermo, Brussels, Lille,
Birmingham, and even Makerfield
The old empires' bins strike back, chiming:
"Bin day is coming! Make earth great again!"
As for the culinary land of Gustav Vasa
Where 'green things' stand for vegetables
Can one candidly blurt out "sh1t, pommes frites!"
Without investigating the digestive implications.
Fecality is a proverbial verb:
A right to do as tickles one's fancy.
And so, when out and about in the globalised town
The pavements are always sticky with unidentifiable stuff.
Black gold might feed the crops in the countryside,
But oozes as excremental fluids in the urban cores.
Party till you drop, for the show must go on.
When so little of what matters
Seems to be trustworthy and dependable
The fickleness of the whole matter
Is no longer that trivial.
Which begs the two-penny question:
What else can we reasonably look forward to
When all fickle experiences and reasonings
Have been digested and transformed as p00?
Whether rich or poor, young or old,
The crux of the foul matter is
That the grass always is greener
Somewhere beyond the shimmering horizon
Past the mysterious cities of gold.
Human life seems tragically stretched
Between nondescript rags and nonsensical riches.
There is never enough of the good stuff
And always too much of the sludgy stink --
In reliably fickle supply and distribution.
